South Scarle Collection in Aid of Newark Foodbank

A collection point is available on the second Saturday of the month from the Parish Room between 10.30am and 12 noon.  If you fancy a coffee and chat with friends and neighbours at the same time you are welcome to join us for the Air Ambulance Coffee Morning.

If you would like to donate to the foodbank, there is a green crate located in the Community Centre to leave donations.  Alternatively, donations can be dropped into Clare and Stephen at Hall Cottage (or left on their doorstep).

We share the delivery of donations with Girton who also collect during their monthly coffee mornings.  Sally, the Church Warden in Girton takes it in turns with Clare and Stephen to take the food from both villages to Newark Foodbank’s distribution warehouse in Balderton.  The team there give out food to any Newark Resident who has referred and requested a food parcel.  The food parcels can then be collected from the Newark office on Balderton  Gate in the town centre.

Newark Foodbank

1 IN 5 PEOPLE ARE LIVING BELOW THE POVERTY LINE IN THE UK
Today in Newark these families are struggling tout food on the table. For people on low incomes, a sudden crisis – redundancy, benefit delay or even an unexpected bill – can mean going hungry. Every day parents skip meals to feed their children and people are forced to choose between paying the rent and eating.

A GIFT OF FOOD DOES MORE THAN JUST FILL EMPTY STOMACHS
Foodbanks help to prevent family breakdown, housing loss, crime and mental health problems. We also take time to listen and signpost people to further support.

Newark foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s UK-wide food bank network. The Trussell Trust is a Christian charity that works with the whole community to provide emergency food to people of all faiths and none. Whilst food banks are motivated by Christian values, there is no requirement for any food bank client or volunteer to engage in any Christian activity.
